SANDTON
CHOIR

More about us
The type of choir we are
Sandton Choir was started in June 2002 with a view to providing those who sang for the joy of singing, with a choir of their own. The choir flourished and within the space of a year was performing on a regular basis. In the time that the choir has been together, a substantial repertoire has been built up and the choir has given a number of performances. We sing in four part harmony i.e. soprano, alto, tenor and bass. (Should the music require it, the choir will sometimes also separate into a 2nd soprano section.) The choir is led by a conductor and accompanied on the piano by an accompanist. The choir may sometimes also join with other choirs and musicians.
Sandton Choir operates according to a constitution and is a member of the Southern African Music Rights Organization (SAMRO).
Who the members are
Members of the choir are drawn from the Sandton and Randburg areas in Gauteng and are from all walks of life. The choir does not recruit its members according to age, gender, religion or any such criteria. Members are chosen only for their ability to sing in tune.
What type of music is sung
The music to be sung is suggested and chosen by the members themselves. If there is a four part harmony version available of a song, the choir is usually quite happy to give it a try. We sing traditional, folk, pop, movie musicals, opera and classical music.
When we give performances
Concerts and performances are given during the course of the year and a Christmas repertoire is performed at Christmas time. Sandton Choir members are always happy to collaborate with other choirs for performances. The choir can also be booked for functions and weddings.
How you can join
In order to keep membership steady, Sandton Choir is always on the lookout for new members.
Anyone who is interested is welcome to visit. We realise that sometimes potential members are intimidated by the technical aspects of the music. Don’t be put off by this! The only thing you need to have when you join the choir is an ear for music and a love for it. For those who don’t yet read music, our conductor has a session from 19h00 to 19h15 every rehearsal where members can ask questions about the music to help them along. If you can sing and love singing for the joy of it and would like to hear your voice joined with others, then please visit us. Send us an email and we will get in contact with you.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals are held every Thursday from 19h00 to 20h30 at Randburg Methodist Church, cnr Bram Fischer / Grove (McKay) - next to Multichoice.
